A local student has won a major scholarship from a retirement organization.
Eden Dusome received a $3,000 grant from the Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario (MROO), which awarded $113,00 in scholarships to 36 students across the province. All recipients are family members of current MROO members.
Scholarships were awarded in each of the MROO’s nine zones with recipients determined based on the number of applicants and specific eligibility criteria, including the student’s leadership skills, volunteer experience and commitment to making a difference in their communities.
Dusome is studying Criminology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and also plays for the school’s women’s hockey team. Prior to joining TMU’s hockey team, Dusome played with the Barrie Sharks, where she spent the past seven years as a part of the organization.
“Here at MROO, we are huge supporters of education and lifelong learning. I am thrilled to be a part of MROO and see the positive impact we are having in our communities throughout Ontario,” Zone 9 director Cindy Snider said in a release.
“Congratulations to Eden, and best of luck with your studies this year!”
