With this past week's significant snowfall, Penetanguishene is striving to control an unwanted issue that can sometimes lead to arguments between neighbours or problems with the municipality
In a release sent out by roads supervisor Tyler Haourt, the town reminds residents and business owners that during the winter season, the main objective of the snow clearing and removal operations is to clear the snow quickly from the streets.
“This critical service can be significantly hampered by residents depositing snow within the roadway or along the edge of the road,” the town notes, before adding that it’s illegal to deposit snow on town property and is prohibited by traffic and parking bylaws along with the Highway Traffic Act.
Anyone with questions or concerns can call the Public Works Department at (705) 549-7992.
As well, deputy fire chief John Crawford sent out a release asking all residents and business owners to be mindful of not blocking or obstructing fire hydrants when clearing snow.
"For your safety and the safety of your neighbours, it is important to keep hydrants clear and unobstructed so that they are accessible in case of an emergency," Crawford notes.
If there is a fire hydrant in front of or adjacent to your property, please ensure the hydrant is clearly visible and unobstructed."
