Santa Claus greeted parade goers at last year's Midland parade.

Besides Saturday’s Santa Claus parade in downtown Midland, there are a number of other local events.

On Friday evening, Midland officially lights its Christmas tree at Neezhoday Park (located beside the library).

The event, which runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. will also feature carolling, singalongs, pipes and drums, choirs, a drum circle, parade floats, buskers, photos with Santa, firetruck, free hot chocolate (save a tree, bring a mug!), candy canes and crafts.

Downtown Midland encourages residents to support local shops and find that special gift just in time for the holidays.

The Midland Civitan Club's 48th Annual Santa Claus Parade features the theme: A Nostalgic Christmas. The festivities get underway at 11 a.m., beginning from Little Lake Park and continuing down King Street.

For those looking for a bite to eat after Saturday morning’s parade, St. Margaret’s Church might be a good option.

The C.W.L’s annual Christmas bazaar luncheon will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The popular event takes place in the church’s lower level and features Santa’s elves serving lunch for $9 per person.

There will also be a chance to take home some baked goodies and purchase tickets for a basket raffle.
