Tiny voters select David Evans to lead township

Sean Miskimins elected deputy mayor with Steffen Walma, Kelly Peter Helowka and Dave Brunelle serving as councillors

David Evans is all about confidence and trust with Tiny.

And now, the 59-year-old resident will lead the township as its new mayor.

"I have been preparing for this role my whole life," Evans told MidlandToday.

“From a child playing on the beach at Ardmore to working on a forest firefighting crew to pay for my university degree, I have learned the value of hard work and being part of a team through good times and bad.”

The political newcomer handily defeated challenger and former councillor Tony Mintoff by a vote of 4,102 to 2,242.

Joining Evans at the council table as deputy mayor is Sean Miskimins.

Miskimins is co-founder of the Beach Rights group, which has lobbied for better public access to the township’s beaches.

Miskimins received 2,537 votes to fend off outgoing councillor John Bryant (2,163 votes) and Steve Saltsman (1,602 votes) to take the deputy mayor’s position.

Outgoing Deputy Mayor Steffen Walma opted to return as a councillor and was easily elected with 2,698 votes.

Joining Evans, Miskimins and Walma at the council table are Kelly Peter Helowka and Dave Brunelle with 2,208 and 2,184 votes, respectively.
