Lafontaine resident Dave Brunelle is the 2025 New Blue Party candidate in the upcoming provincial election.

This is one of a series of profiles on the candidates running in Simcoe North for the Feb. 27 provincial election.

Lafontaine resident Dave Brunelle is representing the New Blue Party in Simcoe North in the upcoming provincial election on Feb. 27.

For more than 40 years, Brunelle has been involved in the construction and hospitality industries among various industries. With a Bachelor of Arts Degree in economics from Wilfrid Laurier University, Brunelle has also been a community coach and served as a landlord within Tiny Township, where he currently sits as a municipal councillor.

“Like many residents of the Simcoe North riding, I became increasingly frustrated with our current provincial government’s fiscal irresponsibility, lack of integrity, disregard for accountability to constituents, and government policies driven by unelected bureaucrats, lobbyists and special interest groups,” Brunelle says.

“It’s time for a change in how we do politics.”

Brunelle is committed to bringing about that change: to hold elected officials accountable to their constituents, while representing them in a respectful, transparent and lawful manner.

According to Brunelle, the New Blue Party is looking to unite Ontarians “to challenge Ford and the Trudeau-aligned PC party.”

Grassroots policies developed from party members in its first election during the 2022 campaign involved renewing accountability and promoting meritocracy by stopping ‘woke’ activism, and providing tax relief to grow the economy through cutting HST and eliminating wind turbines and electrical vehicle subsidies.

Further to those initial promises, Brunelle will look toward reducing the cost of living under the New Blue Party by: reducing housing costs through forceful eviction of non-compliant tenants and cutting carbon taxes and pricing systems.

As well, rebuilding healthcare has been proposed through: rehiring healthcare workers fired as a result of COVID-19 non-compliance; clearing procedure backlog by offering private healthcare options as a choice; and reallocating healthcare funding from ‘green’ and ‘climate change’ initiatives, education administration costs, and corporate and political party subsidies.

In regards to voter apathy which remains persistent at elections in every level of government, Brunelle says: “What needs to be done to reduce apathy is to restore voter integrity and public trust.

“The people of Ontario are sick and tired of the usual rhetoric during an election from the four established parties (PC, Liberal, NDP, Green) telling people what they want to hear, and doing what they want to do to stay elected by spending their way out of it, which leads to higher taxes,” Brunelle adds.

Further information on the future “hope, opportunity, and prosperity” of Brunelle and the New Blue Party, as well as full policy declarations, can be found in the official party website.
