Since 1974, the Georgian Shores Seniors Club (GSSC) has been dedicated to providing recreation, entertainment and life enrichment for those 50 years and older.
The non-profit understands the importance of staying active physically and mentally throughout one’s senior years, and with the help of volunteers, they run a variety of programs to keep their members healthy.
These programs include chair yoga, aerobic exercises, line dancing, table tennis and zumba classes.
Their programming also includes intellectually stimulating activities such as bid euchre, book club, camera club and bingo.
“We’re at 350 members now, which is a very sizable number for a club of our size,” shared Helmut Paddags, president and director of communications at the GSSC. “Because of this, we could use more volunteers. The club lives on volunteers.”
GSSC offers plenty of opportunities for volunteers who would like to give their time to a good cause. Volunteers can help out with bingo, line dancing, monthly weekend socials, or with teaching computer skills, crafting and more.
If you have a talent to share or would like to find out more information about becoming a volunteer, you can contact the club here.
As the organization relies on support from the community to keep their services running, the GSSC hosts a number of fundraising events throughout the year, including bake sales and a strawberry social in the springtime.
If you would like to help support the club and be recognized as one of its valued sponsors, you can find more information by visiting their website.
“It’s very important for older adults to stay active in a number of ways,” Paddags said. “We hope to continue being able to provide an environment where older adults can remain physically, mentally and socially active.”
