Janice Ferris is a dedicated community volunteer whose kindness, determination and selflessness have left a lasting impact on those around her.
For years, Janice has been the driving force behind the Youth Expo at the Geogian Bay Hunters and Anglers Club, an annual event that introduces local youth to the outdoors through activities like fishing, hiking and shooting sports.
With unwavering commitment, she spends months securing sponsorships to ensure that each child who attends goes home with a prize, making the experience truly special for every participant.
Beyond the Youth Expo, Janice dedicates countless hours to serving the community.
She volunteers at the Midland Legion, contributes her time to fundraising efforts for Wendat programs and never hesitates to help those in need.
Inspired by Janice's generosity and tireless spirit, her close friend Lynn nominated her for a MidlandToday Random Act of Kindness.
"She's always one to offer any kind of help and if she cant do it herself she will find a resource for you," shared Lynn "She will never leave you high and dry."
"She seeks out the opportunity to help someone, she's always trying to make others happy," shared her husband Larry. "My schedule is according to that as well, she's just a good human being always trying to make someone smile."
We decided to celebrate Janice's giving nature by surprising her with a Random Act of Kindness, arriving with gifts from our generous community partners.
Gifts included a bait and tackle gift certificate, a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers and a donation in Janice's honour to the Youth Expo to help fund their annual event.
Janice was both touched and impressed by the gesture.
"Volunteerism makes the world go around," expressed Janice when she received her Random Act of Kindness.
"I was so touched and I was able to share some of the flowers. I didn't want to keep them all to myself," shared Janice further showcasing her constant giving nature.
The donation was of utmost importance to her. "The donation is just fabulous. I'm going to share it with the board of directors this evening. We have 65 kids through the program, so this is very appreciated," stated Janice.
When asked about why she volunteers Janice shared, "I get a lot out of volunteering. It brings me joy and it keeps me busy." She continued, "Both of my parents were very giving people and I grew up in the club. My dad was one of the original members so it comes naturally," shared Janice.
A big thank you to our co-sponsors Fresh Flowers by Leanne and G-Bay Bait and Tackle for making this Random Act of Kindness possible.
