NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF TINY
*************************
Further to the Provincial Government’s implementation of Stage 1 – A Framework for Reopening our Province, the Township of Tiny is initiating Phase 3 of reopening our outdoor amenities.
The Township continues to take a cautious, phased approach to reopening outdoor amenities under the guidance of the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit and the Province’s regional reopening strategy.
We’ve heard the request from Tiny residents to reopen boardwalks and pickleball courts. After careful consideration, the Township has deemed it feasible to reopen the boardwalks and pickleball courts under the following new health and safety protocols:
- Maintain physical distancing (2 meters/6 feet) at all times.
- Do not use the boardwalks or courts if you are sick or exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19.
- It is recommended you wash your hands or use an alcohol-based sanitizer before and after using the boardwalks and courts. These amenities are not sanitized by the Township; use at your own risk.
- Provincial regulations regarding social gatherings must be adhered to. As of June 5, 2020, social gatherings of more than 5 people are strictly prohibited, unless all individuals reside in the same household (Ontario Regulation 52/20).
Additional protocols for the boardwalks:
- Masks are recommended for use, as physical distancing can be difficult.
- No stopping on the boardwalks. Additional protocols for the pickleball courts:
- Only casual play is permitted; lessons and league play are not allowed.
- No handshakes.
- No sharing of equipment.
- Do not enter the courts if they are full; queue in line outside the courts, maintaining physical distancing.
- Players are asked to limit their use of the courts to 30 minutes while others are waiting to play.
- Leave the courts immediately after play.
The Bluewater Beach and Woodland Beach boardwalks are reopened for public use, effective Friday, June 5, 2020, at 12:01 a.m.
The portion of the Woodland Beach boardwalk that provides access to the beach will remain closed for repairs due to damage sustained from high water levels.
Access to Woodland Beach will be via the end of the road allowance.
The multi-use courts at Balm Beach will be open for both tennis and pickleball use starting on Monday, June 8, 2020. Two pickleball nets will be set up weekly from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The courts will be locked overnight.
The tennis courts located at Perkinsfield Park and on Emilio Place remain open. These areas will continue to be monitored by Township of Tiny Municipal Law Enforcements Officers (MLEO) and Ontario Provincial Police Officers (OPP) to protect the health and wellbeing of residents and users.
Ensuring compliance through education and awareness remains the preferred method of engagement, but enforcement through warnings and fines will be relied upon if necessary.
The Township maintains the right to close or restrict use of any municipal amenities without notice. Visit www.tiny.ca/coronavirus to view the current reopening status of outdoor amenities.
