Overview
The Downtown Midland BIA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering the growth and vibrancy of the central business district in the Town of Midland, Ontario. Established in 1977 as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) under the Ontario Municipal Act and a town bylaw, the organization plays a pivotal role in supporting local businesses and enhancing the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike.
Mission
To promote and sustain a thriving, dynamic downtown that serves as the cultural, commercial, and social heart of Midland.
Governance
The Midland BIA is managed by a volunteer Board of Management, consisting of seven members. The board oversees initiatives and allocates resources to support business development, community events, and infrastructure improvements. Funding is secured through a levy applied to the property taxes of businesses within the designated downtown boundaries, with the annual budget subject to approval by the Midland Town Council.
Boundaries
Downtown Midland’s BIA spans King Street from the north side of Elizabeth Street to the south side of Bayshore Drive, bordered by Bourgeois Lane to the west and Borsa Lane to the east.
Community Collaboration
The success of Downtown Midland hinges on the widespread support of local businesses and the surrounding community. The BIA actively encourages volunteerism, business engagement, and community participation to help drive its initiatives. Collaborative efforts focus on improving downtown aesthetics, hosting events, and fostering a welcoming environment for shoppers, diners, and visitors.
