This letter is in response to a recent story entitled: Attitude on carbon tax rebate defined by politics, not facts, survey suggests.

Dear Editor,

This article alludes to how misunderstood the carbon tax rebate is; but actually says many recipients are irrational in their belief they are being ripped off.

Here's the thing - if indeed I am getting all the taxes I paid back (and survey co-author Kathryn Harrison says I get even more), what was the point in levying the tax in the first place? To stop poorer people from using too much petroleum or forcing them to lower thermostats?

Then there's the wealth-redistribution aspect.

How is it families get more back based on numbers of children when it's household heating bill payers and drivers that are getting taxed. What tax did the kids pay?

These are the direct questions she could have answered but danced around.

If it looks like a scam and sounds like a scam it's probably a scam.
