MidlandToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via the website. Please include your full name, daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to an article titled 'Ice age grass prompts First Nations activist to rally citizens to stop Tiny admin build', published Oct. 3.

Federally, "...whether you are an elected municipal official or not, the Species at Risk Act can affect you if a species at risk is found at any time throughout the year on a property in which you have an interest...".

Provincially, in Ontario, "...No person shall kill, harm, harass, capture, or take a living member of a species that is listed on the Species at Risk in Ontario List as an extirpated, endangered, or threatened species...".

Regretfully, an endangered, species at risk (ice age grass), that staff and council knew was present for several months, on a lot owned by Tiny Township on the 9th concession, has been mowed, crushed, torn up, damaged and killed, repeatedly.

This species and other SAR remain unprotected. For the record, who is responsible?

Paul Bell, Ph.D
Tiny Township
