Midland's Canada Day events will be a mix of much-loved traditions and exciting new features.
As always, the day begins with the Midland Civitan Club's parade at 10:30 a.m. into Little Lake Park, where the day's events take place.
"The Civitans have been doing this for a very long time. It opens the festival and brings the crowds to Little Lake Park to enjoy the day," said Nicole Major, tourism and special events planner for the Town of Midland.
Returning this year due to its popularity last year is the $5 wrist bands for the children's play area which includes face painting and many air bounces including an obstacle course, slap shot hockey, mini golf and cannon air blasters.
Free in the park is a magic show and entertainment by several buskers including stilt walkers, a juggler and unicyclist, Mario and Yoshi characters, laser tag, a hula hoop fun zone and more between 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Create with Lego is a new event this year.
There will be lots of craft vendors and also a food court with many vendors.
The Rotary Bandshell entertainment stage is booked solid from noon to after 6 p.m., so you'll want to pack your lawn chair to sit and enjoy it, said Major. Here's the musical line-up.
- 12:00 - 1:00: Brudders from Another Mudder
- 1:20-2:20: Dylan Lock
- 2:40 - 3:40: 93 North
- 4:00 - 5:00: Bustin Loose
- 5:20 - 6:20: The Wendy Laurier Band
The Civitan Club also holds a 50/50 draw and the winner will be announced at the stage at 5 p.m.
The anticipated attendance is 10,000 people, said Major.
Everything takes place at Little Lake Park, except the fireworks at dusk, which are in Penetanguishene's waterfront park.
"We want to support each other’s events," said Major. "This way we can put our budget together and have one amazing fireworks show."
