The Canadian Museum of Water begins a new speaker series Sunday.

Walks, Talks and Learning Opps will feature Severn Sound Environmental Association water scientist Aisha Chiandet.

“This is a great new initiative happening through our new Canadian Museum of Water,” Dan Travers told MidlandToday, noting the timing for the talk couldn’t be better.

“Water quality is an important issue at the moment, and we are delighted to have Aisha debut our speaker series," he said.

As the SSEA's senior water scientist and limnologist, Chiandet will speak about some of the sampling equipment used, what they monitor and provide an overview of the region’s water quality based on their research and data.

The program begins at 2 p.m. and is expected to run for about 90 minutes. Attendees are encouraged to bring a sunhat, a refillable water bottle, and a folding chair.

The Canadian Museum of Water is a Port McNicoll-based not-for-profit group which highlights the importance of water as a life-giving and life-sustaining force. Initially a virtual museum, it is part of the worldwide network of water museums coordinated under the UNESCO banner.

Future programs in the series will feature naturalist David Hawke leading a nature walk along the Tay Trail on August 21 and retired teacher and Georgian Bay historian Michael Blais leading a heritage walk of Port McNicoll on August 28. All programs begin at 2 p.m.

New programs in the series are expected to continue throughout the fall.
