WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Snow squalls are expected to bring up to 60 cm of snow to the Midland area on Christmas Day, Environment Canada says.
Environment Canada also warned that travel is expected to be “extremely hazardous” due to reduced visibility.
Snowfall is expected to continue into tonight.
The full weather warning issued by Environment Canada follows below:
Warnings
8:43 AM EST Sunday 25 December 2022
Snow squall warning in effect for:
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
Persistent lake effect snow squalls today and tonight.
Hazards:
Total snow amounts 30 to 60 cm.
Significantly reduced visibilities due to heavy snow and blowing snow.
Timing:
Now into tonight.
Discussion:
An organized lake effect snow band is expected to persist over the region for most of the day and possibly continue through most of tonight as well.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Travel is expected to be extremely hazardous due to reduced visibility. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. If you become stranded in a vehicle do not leave. The vehicle offers a form of protection from the cold. A single person walking through the snow is harder to find than a stranded car or truck. Take frequent breaks and avoid strain when clearing snow.
