Coun. Sheldon East has been requested by Midland’s top man to take it easy after being hospitalized due to a stroke last week.
In response to MidlandToday, Mayor Bill Gordon confirmed that East had fallen ill some time last week.
“The extent of this medical emergency is still being analyzed,” said Gordon, “but Sheldon is awake, with family and working with his medical team on next steps and prognosis. As far as I know, he is not receiving visitors at this time.
“This came as a shock to me and to his many friends who learned of this through their sharing of well wishes on his social media,” Gordon added.
East is a first-term council member for the town of Midland and has been a vocal supporter of causes involving the health and well-being of the downtown core where he works. The next regular meeting of council and committee of the whole is on Wednesday, but Gordon insisted East take the time off.
“From a council perspective, I'd expect Sheldon to take whatever time he needs away from his Town duties as he recovers,” Gordon noted. “We will miss his youthful exuberance at our meeting this week and look forward to his return once he is able.”
Additionally, Gordon requested that MidlandToday readers keep East and his family in their thoughts and prayers, as East had been within Gordon’s own thoughts and prayers since learning about the incident over the weekend.
“I'll share what I told Sheldon: please just focus on your recovery and your family. The Town work will all be waiting for you when you are able to be back with us and should be the last thing on your mind right now.
“Get some rest, listen to your physicians and get well soon my friend.”
