A fire last month that destroyed part of a Midland home is being treated as accidental.

Paul Ryan, who serves as fire chief for both Midland and Penetanguishene, said the Feb. 19 fire at the Eighth Street bungalow isn’t deemed suspicious.

“We’ve done an investigation and the cause is undetermined,” he said. “We just can’t pinpoint it, but it’s a non-suspicious fire.”

Midland firefighters arrived at the Eighth Street home shortly after midnight and worked to control the blaze while ensuring it didn't spread to neighbouring homes. The couple who lived in the home were not injured.

“They were fully insured,” Ryan said, noting their insurance company has probably put them up in temporary housing until their home can be rebuilt.

As well, Ryan said the insurance company took samples from the home for analysis to try to determine how the blaze started.

Located between Quebec and Ottawa street, damage to the beige-sided bungalow appeared most prominent in the living-room area and an attached garage while the front entranceway looked virtually untouched with a seasonal planter, shovel and jug of ice-melter resting on the front stoop.
