Are you ready to howl?
The Festival du Loup takes over Lafontaine Saturday with a bevy of events designed to satisfy every age and interest.
Held in Parc Lafontaine, the 20th annual event is a celebration based on the semi-fictional 1955 story Le Loup de Lafontaine by Father Thomas Marchildon which recalled a terrorized community’s triumph over a supernatural menace in the early days of the village.
The Festival du Loup kicks off at 10 a.m. with the annual tractor parade, which will be followed at 11 a.m. by the Amandine et Rosalie presenting their show "J’aime ma francophonie!" under the big tent.
Throughout the afternoon, emerging artists will be performing under the big tent with an obstacle course and other activities located nearby.
At 5 p.m. le Collectif du loup will be performing traditional francophone music. The group includes well-known local musicians Joëlle Roy, Kelly Lefaive, Michel Payment, Taylor Forget, Louis Lefaive and Shawn Pitre.
There is a “Métis” supper beginning at 5:30 p.m., which leads into the “la soirée du Grand hurlement (the Big Howl)” dance party in the evening featuring music by Bon Débarras.
Comprised of Dominic Desrochers, Jean-François Dumas and Véronique Plasse, Bon Débarras is an awarding-winning trio that plays traditional folkloric music from Québec.
