Officials are investigating the cause of a weekend structure fire in Tay Township.
Shawn Aymer, Tay fire chief, said he called the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and Emergency Management because he couldn't determine the cause on his own and wanted a second opinion.
On Monday, he was on the scene at Ogden's Beach Road with the three investigators sent by the OFM to help determine the cause.
"We're de-layering the site right now so we can get to the area of origin," said Clive Hubbard, an OFM fire investigator. "The way the building was constructed the fire travelled a fair bit underneath the building between the ground and the bottom of the trailer and additions, so I need to get in there to have a look in there."
He couldn't give an exact estimate for when he would know about the cause of the fire.
"Each fire is different," said Hubbard. "The circumstances of each fire dictate the amount of time it takes, sometimes it's a day, sometimes it's several days. I don't know at this point how long is it going to be."
The incident, which occurred on Saturday night at 10:09 p.m., was spotted and reported from across Tiffin Bay by residents living on Aberdeen Boulevard in Midland, Aymer said.
The campground owners only became aware of the situation when Tay fire arrived on scene, he said.
"The front of the structure was on fire," Aymer told MidlandToday. "It was a working fire at that point. Crews quickly knocked it down but we were here for several hours because it's a mobile home wrapped in a house."
Four hours later, he said, the firefighters finally had everything under control.
"They've added onto the side (of the structure)," Aymer said. "We had to cut through the external structure to get to the fire."
The mobile home was vacant, so there were no injuries to any individuals, Aymer said.
"It's a seasonal facility, so the camp itself is closed until May 24," he added.
The lone structure is a complete write off, said Aymer, who noted there was no damage to any neighbouring buildings.
"The fire was contained to that one structure," he said.
