The federal Conservative party has given four candidates the OK to run for the Simcoe North nomination.
Members of the Simcoe North Conservative riding association will cast their ballots July 24 and 25. The vote will be done using the preferential ballot method, meaning members can vote for as many of the candidates as they want while ranking them in order of their preference. Ultimately, one will be chosen.
The approved candidates are Adam Chambers, Basil Clarke, Toyin Crandell and Marcus Mattinson.
Dan Masin was in the running, but he was not approved by the party because his application was incomplete, said Kirk Farquhar, chair of the local candidate selection committee.
The winner will look to replace long-time Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton, who has decided to retire.
Finally having a date for a nomination meeting is “a relief,” Farquhar said.
“Obviously, there are rumours of an election coming up,” he said, adding the four candidates for the nomination are “anxious, whoever is the winner, to get out on the hustings and start campaigning.”
Members will be able to vote between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. July 24 at the Ramara Centre and July 25 at the Midland Curling Club. The winning candidate will be announced the evening of July 25.
