The Huronia Community Foundation celebrated its silver anniversary in style recently.
When the agency (HCF) was registered on March 2nd 2000, it became the 99th Community Foundation in Canada.
"HCF has gone from one person's idea 25 years ago to an organization that supports 67 local charities who are making a difference in all sectors of our community,” president Susan Lalonde Rankin says.
“Imagine what could be achieved by HCF in the next 25 years?”
More than 80 people gathered at the Midland Public Library Wednesday to celebrate 25 years of the organization’s work to support charities across North Simcoe.
The audience heard from HCF’s first executive director Garry Morehouse, who shared the personal reflections from Ruth Gammell, the wife of the organization's first president John Gammell.
As well, representatives from 20 local charities attended and shared the impact of a recent grant from the Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund that saw recipients share $102,500 provided by the M. Wayne and J. Coleman Family Fund.
This year's grants supported projects addressing food security, healthy living activities, educational and literacy training opportunities, creativity in arts and culture, promotion of mental health and environmental leadership.
To cap off the recent festivities, HCF board member Paul Eichhorn unveiled HCF's new logo and tagline (seen below) to the audience.
"As we are reaching a significant milestone in our organization's history, we felt it was an appropriate time to reflect our identity with a new logo and tagline,” Eichhorn says.
“Both represent not only where the organization is today, but where we are heading in the future."
Since 2000, the Huronia Community Foundation has provided more than $3.5 million to support local charities.
