What would north Simcoe be like without its charitable organizations?

Their work is "vitally important," according to the Huronia Community Foundation (HCF).

Funding help is now available through a fund created by the Marc Wayne and Julie Coleman families. Organizations are now invited to apply for grants from the Huronia Community Foundation's Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund.

Launched in 2023, the fund disbursed a total of over $91,000 in grants to 19 local charities.

"It represents the Wayne and Coleman family's commitment to the future of Huronia," the HCF noted in a release.

The grant funds organizations in seven main areas: Food security, arts and culture, education, literacy and training, environmental leadership, healthy living and mental health.

Details on the Heart of Georgian Bay Community Forward Fund and how to apply are now available here. Applications will be accepted until December 30 with grants awarded in February.

Previous fund recipients included Georgian Bay Food Network - School Snack Program; Waypoint Centre for Mental Health - POMPHY Program for Youth; CLH Foundation - Bridging the Gap 2.0; Askennonia Senior Centre - Senior Explorers Club; Severn Sound Environmental Association - Restore the Shore and Scientists in School - North Simcoe STEM enrichment.

Since 2000, HCF has disbursed $3.5 million in grants.

"Generous citizens and companies are the benefactors who fund the Huronia Community Foundation," the agency notes. "Working with 205 other members of Community Foundations of Canada, HCF then builds financial legacies through endowments, using them to make our local community a better place to live, work and play."
