Hospice Huronia is proud to announce that Tammy Vaters, supportive care co-ordinator, has successfully earned her certification in thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC).
This achievement recognizes Tammy’s advanced expertise in the areas of death, dying, grief, and bereavement, reflecting her unwavering commitment to providing compassionate, holistic care to individuals and families during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Thanatology, the multidisciplinary study of death, dying, grief, and bereavement, is an essential field for professionals working in palliative and end-of-life care. The ADEC certification is a mark of distinction, demonstrating advanced knowledge and the ability to apply evidence-based practices to support both terminally ill individuals and their loved ones.
In her role as supportive care co-ordinator at Hospice Huronia, Tammy is integral to overseeing patient care, guiding families through complex emotional and logistical challenges, and ensuring that both patients and their families receive compassionate, comprehensive care. Tammy’s newly acquired thanatology certification will further enhance her ability to provide a well-rounded approach, addressing not only the physical but also the emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families.
“The certification in thanatology deepens Tammy’s expertise and strengthens the care we provide,” said Debbie Keshishian, executive director of Hospice Huronia. “Her in-depth understanding of the emotional and psychological aspects of death and grief will enhance the support we offer, ensuring a more comprehensive, compassionate experience for patients and their families.”
Stacey Cooper, director of operations and community programs, added, “Tammy’s passion for end-of-life care has always been a cornerstone of her work with our team. With her new certification, she brings even more depth and insight to her role, ensuring that we continue to deliver the highest quality of care to those we serve. We are incredibly proud of Tammy’s accomplishments and the positive impact her expertise will have on our community.”
Tammy’s dedication to end-of-life care has always been evident in her work, and this certification marks a new milestone in her ability to navigate the complex realities of grief and loss. With this enhanced knowledge, she is poised to foster an environment of peace, healing, and comfort for those in her care.
Hospice Huronia is immensely proud of Tammy’s professional growth and looks forward to the continued positive impact of her expertise on the care provided to the community.
