Tuesday marked a “very significant evening,” as Reinhart Weber and the Weber Foundation donated $22.5 million to 13 local charities.

Huronia Transition Homes is honoured to be one of the charities supported, through a $500,000 donation that will be used to expand Operation Grow, the organization’s social enterprise providing opportunities to women who have experienced violence to develop essential skills and to gain economic self-sufficiency.

The half-million-dollar donation will support the expansion of Operation Grow, which is ready to grow beyond its current location at 436 Bay St. in the heart of Midland. Since opening in 2017, Operation Grow has well exceeded its expectations of supporting women in the community and is looking to make an even bigger impact for its members and the Midland community.

This isn’t the first time the Weber Foundation has supported Operation Grow. The foundation was instrumental in making the social enterprise a reality, an investment which has already changed the lives of so many women. This renewed investment for expansion will support even more women, empowering them to realize their hopes and dreams.

The acting executive director, Haily MacDonald, received the donation at their celebration and cheque presentation on July 2 and said, “We couldn’t be more grateful to the Weber Foundation for their support and confidence in Operation Grow from the start. It’s remarkable to see how strong the sense of community is here in north Simcoe and allows us to really see how sustainable change can be made for the entire community.”

The generous donation from the Weber Foundation will be invested until Huronia Transition Homes can fully realize its expansion plans for Operation Grow. Currently, Operation Grow sells fresh greens grown year-round on site, in addition to soups, spreads, and more out of their retail store on Bay Street, where its indoor hydronic farm is housed, and social programs are run.
