Temporary structures like this one are extremely popular in Québec.

Anyone who’s ever lived in Québec during the winter months knows all too well the province’s love affair with temporary shelter structures.

Now, Tay Township wants to hear how its residents feel about allowing these often white portable garages in the municipality.

Until July 24, residents can take a survey voicing their opinion on whether to allow the structures locally.

According to the township’s definition, a  temporary shelter is any temporary structure with or without side panels, the covering of which is made of pliable material, such as plastic or fabric, that achieves its shape by air support, air inflation or tension.

“Structures are often called portable garage, carport or shelter,” the township adds.

The current township policies consider these types of structures as accessory structures and they must meet the zoning by-law requirements for accessory structures, which is the same as a detached garage.
