Midland's Royal Canadian Legion Branch 80 is helping Midland Fire purchase important life-saving equipment.

Through the organization's financial support of $6,650, the department will be able to purchase a new NFPA 1801 certified thermal-imaging camera.

“Thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion for this generous support," Fire Chief Richard Renaud said in a release. "These lifesaving tools allow the Midland Fire Department to make critical decisions, ensuring overall safety while conducting rescue operations."

Royal Canadian Legion donations go to help veterans and the community at large. The fire department is a recipient of support from the Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliary Charitable Foundation.

Added Renaud: “We are immensely grateful for the donation that made this investment possible.”

Certified thermal imaging cameras are valuable tools that enhance the fire department’s commitment to protect lives, property and the environment. This new camera can be operated safely in hazardous environments to detect if someone is trapped, locate missing people, find hot spots, as well as assess the severity of a fire.

This upgrade in equipment advances the effectiveness of Midland Fire crews during emergency response efforts.
