Local MASH-style spay/neuter clinic definitely the cat's meow

During the three-day event for cats, 127 spay/neuter surgeries were performed, 'preventing an estimated 7,800 potentially unwanted kittens in our region,' OSPCA staff member says

While Hawkeye and Trapper John didn’t attend, the local animal shelter’s recent MASH-style spay/neuter clinic proved a huge success.

“The impact was pawsitive,” Midland and District Animal Centre community outreach coordinator Carolyn Gibson told MidlandToday.

“During the three-day event for cats, 127 spay/neuter surgeries were performed, preventing an estimated 7,800 potentially unwanted kittens in our region.

“These are animals who may have ended up homeless, on our streets, or in local shelters. In addition, we administered 120 vaccines and 37 microchips to help ensure lost pets are reunited with their families.”

With last week’s clinic, made possible by Simcoe County, the hope was to reach underserved members of the community who may not be able to access this care for their animals due to financial constraints or lack of a regular veterinarian.

“These new portable outreach events are designed to be easily packed up and transported to wherever they are needed, with the goal of reaching underserved communities who might not have otherwise been able to access these basic animal wellness services,” Gibson said.

“The County of Simcoe generously provided a grant to help bring the service to the community.”
