Midland residents looking for some outdoor activity will have to be even more creative.

The Town of Midland is closing almost all of its outdoor amenities until further notice to comply with the provincial emergency and stay-at-home orders.

That means that baseball diamonds, tennis and pickleball courts, soccer fields, basketball courts and the Little Lake skate and Frisbee golf parks will be off limits until at least May 5.

As well, the town won’t be opening park bathrooms for the time being and forbidding use of picnic sites and picnic tables.

However, some amenities such as the off-leash dog parks in Little Lake and Tiffin parks will remain open as will playgrounds and park benches, although the town notes that the latter two amenities are not sanitized.

As for harbour services, the town notes that “recreational boating is not permitted” but that regulations continue to be reviewed and any changes will be made accordingly.

For the time being, however, the regulations mean that boaters may continue using the Pete Pettersen Boat Launch, but only if they are going to another property owned by them or docking it at a marina or the town harbour.

“Boats belonging to seasonal boaters must remain secured at their harbour slips unless they are  travelling to another property owned by them; and  transient boaters/boats will not be permitted to dock,” the town noted in release.

Essential services are not affected and the municipal offices remain open by appointment-only. Transit cards may be purchased or re-loaded at the North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre without an appointment.
