A candlelight tribute Wednesday at the Midland cenotaph will remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the community event hosted by the Lion's Club Leos allows residents to place a candle and honour those who gave their lives for the peace and freedom some may take for granted.

"We are pleased that the annual Candlelight Tribute is being conducted in person again this year, after a two-year hiatus online; this year marks - I believe - the 15th anniversary of the event," said Dan Travers, who serves as Royal Canadian Legion Branch 80 Sgt-at-Arms and public relations officer.

"As the last couple of months has shown the world - peace can be a very fragile thing. Candlelight Tribute is a time for us to pause and reflect on the awful price of war, and remember those who gave up their lives for the freedom and democracy we enjoy in Canada today."

In the event of rain, the ceremony will take place upstairs at the North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre.
