The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society has been operating for over 150 years, providing care, comfort and compassion to animals in need.

In Midland, the organization strives to keep pets and families together through a variety of community support services, such as sheltering and adoptions, feral cat management, animal transfers, food distribution and spay/neuter services.

“Education is one of the most important ways to create a better future for animals,” shared Caroyln Gibson, Community Outreach Worker for the OSPCA Midland.

“We do education blogs and videos and tip Tuesdays give you quick information to help your pets,” said Gibson.

Topics range from water safety for your pets to reducing anxiety during fireworks and much more.

Other programs include Animal Smart presentations for grades one through eight that help foster empathy and promote a sense of responsibility for animals in the community.

The organization relies heavily on volunteers to continue delivering on its mission, with positions including dog walkers, fostering, drivers and community outreach.

“We had a dog named Teensy who was adopted after 93 days in our care. The average stay is 21 days,” shared Gibson.

Stories like Teensy’s are the reason the OSPCA Midland does what they do.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is a registered charity that depends on the generosity of donors to change the lives of animals in need. If you would like to support our local chapter, visit ontariospca.ca/midland.
