Local businesses came together to share trade secrets and make connections at this year’s 25th annual Midland Spring Home Show.
There were a variety of vendors and artisans on one of the Midland rec centre's arena floors and the Bill Thompson Room giving away goodies and providing information regarding their services. There was also some live music courtesy of Ron Whitman throughout the day Saturday.
Residents were encouraged to put their names on raffle tickets for a bicycle, free services and various types of locally sourced goods with the big raffle prize being a hot tub donated by Canadian Spa Company.
“The show really helps local business because it’s very well advertised and it’s a family event,” said Lisa Gray, territory manager at Canadian Spa Co.
“We donated the hot tub to support the Shriners, support Midland’s Home Show and it’s a great chance to educate locals on the health benefits of hot tubs and saunas."
Proceeds go towards the Shriners Hospital for Children to help cover medical expenses for children who cannot get service through their regular hospital system and also to help pay for expenses like festive floats and parades.
“This year we have hot tubs and saunas on display,” said Shriner Bob Phillips. "This event brings in people and business. They get their product and business known while supporting others.”
The annual show puts faces to names and helps foster relationships within Midland’s local business community.
“My business is based off people getting to know the care and pride behind what we do,” said Northshore Tree Experts owner Johnny Corner as he handed out trees to promote his free tree program.
“We give out a free tree to every customer and work with schools to help encourage kids to to plant trees and be excited about it."
“It’s so much easier to create connections and conversation in person,” said Royal LePage realtor Mary Mitakidis.
“That’s why we come to these shows. It’s all about getting your face out there.”
