After a spike yesterday, Public Health Ontario is reporting 138 new COVID-19 cases in the province today; that represents a .4% increase in the overall number of cases. On Friday, authorities reported the number of new cases was 195.
There was just one death reported today. In addition, 140 more cases have been resolved in the past 24 hours.
In total, there have been 38,543 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province since the pandemic began. Almost 89% of those cases have been resolved.
More than 29,000 tests for the coronavirus were conducted yesterday alone, bringing the total number of tests past the two-million mark.
Public Health Ontario reported today that tests, to-date, since the onset of the pandemic, now total 2,018,813.
Public Health Ontario has reported 2,759 deaths of people with COVID-19, including 1,791 residents of long-term care homes and eight long-term care health workers. Seven per cent of all Ontario cases reported have ended in death.
There are 1,547 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province based on Public Health Ontario's epidemiological report. Of those, 97 people are currently hospitalized with 30 patients in intensive care and 21 patients on ventilators.
Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 647 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 616 of those reported in Simcoe County.
Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 573 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 108.5 cases per 100,000 people in the population.
There are 37 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including four people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 24 epidemiological report. There is one active, hospitalized case in Muskoka District.
