'Thrilling' cardboard toboggan races return Sunday in Penetang

With snow finally on the ground, it's time to get ready for a thrilling day of cardboard toboggan racing in Penetanguishene.

The North Simcoe Rotaract Cardboard Toboggan Races, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., promises to be a super fun family event that will have both participants and spectators on the edge of their seats. This event at the Lorne Avenue toboggan hill is a part of the fantastic Winterama and is open to all ages. 

Participants can check in for the event starting at 9:30 AM, and the races will kick off promptly at 10:00 AM. The event will feature various categories with exciting awards up for grabs, including prizes for the most creative box car, the fastest box car, the most people in a box car, and participants with the most team spirit.

"Even if you're not racing, the event is a fantastic opportunity to join in the excitement and cheer for friends, family and creative cardboard crafts as they race down the hill. We all have a blast seeing what adults and kids alike come up with each year," says event chair Parise Leclerc.

The day will also feature music playing, the OPP Auxiliary on-site with radar guns, and complimentary hot chocolate to keep everyone warm.
