Tiny approves 2.92% blended tax increase for 2022

Tiny ratepayers will be paying a little more to the municipal taxman this year.

Council recently approved the 2022 township budget that features an increase in the preliminary blended tax rate of 2.92 percent.

“This year’s budget provides a balanced approach to our growing township’s needs while enabling us to strengthen our programs, services and infrastructure,” Mayor George Cornell said in a release.

 “We value the feedback provided by community members, the responsible input of township staff and the collaborative efforts of council in delivering the 2022 budget.”

Among the budget’s highlights: 

• $4.18 million invested in roads infrastructure improvements including $614,000 invested in climate change projects in the area of drainage and shoreline resilience;

• $1.151-million injection into major fleet equipment including purchasing a new snowplow, a new motor grader, and a new loader;

• $987,000 invested in water system infrastructure improvements including $250,000 to  implement the Cook’s Lake reservoir and $200,000 for pumphouse 1 well replacement;

• $1.38 million invested in several parks, beaches, and playgrounds including new playground equipment at Perkinsfield, Jackson, and Wyevale parks, a new washroom facility at Lafontaine Beach, boardwalk repair in Woodland and multi-use trails at the TTCC;

• $462,500 investment into a replacement fire pumper;

• $342,000 in modernization projects with support through the Provincial Modernization  grant program for initiatives involving digital integration and asset management plan  and strategy for the long-term, upgrading the outdated phone system at the township  offices and studies for optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness in meeting current  and anticipated staff and IT Infrastructure service delivery requirements over the next  5-10 years;

• Continued financial support for regional priorities including the Economic Development Corporation of North Simcoe; Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, Family Physician Recruitment, Wheels for Wheels, Cultural Alliance and Virtual Care Physicians;

• Continued support to the three arenas used by residents in Penetanguishene, Midland, and Springwater and the three partner libraries in Midland, Penetanguishene and Springwater.
