WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
***********************
Snow squall watch issued for:
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake, Ont.
- Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale, Ont.
Current details:
A multi-day lake effect snow event beginning Monday afternoon.
What:
Heavy lake effect snow with accumulations of 20 to 40 cm. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially near Georgian Bay.
Reduced visibility in heavy snow and local blowing snow.
When:
Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning.
Additional information:
Lake effect snow off Georgian Bay is expected to move into the area Monday afternoon and persist through Wednesday morning before weakening and shifting northward. Lesser snowfall is expected for areas further south toward Barrie. There is considerable uncertainty in the exact placement of the heaviest lake effect snow bands.
Westerly winds gusting to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, especially for exposed areas near Georgian Bay.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
