WEATHER ALERT
ENVIRONMENT CANADA
*************************
Snow Squall Warning in effect for:

  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake

Lake effect snow squalls continue today.

Hazards: Locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 20 to 40 cm. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm per hour. Reduced visibility at times in heavy snow and local blowing snow.

Timing: Continuing through today, and into Wednesday for some areas.

Discussion: Snow squalls off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will continue today. Westerly winds gusting to 50 km/h may result in local blowing snow, predominantly for exposed areas near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. A change in wind direction will shift the lake effect snow into areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay tonight into Wednesday. Lake effect snow will gradually taper in intensity through the day on Wednesday.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
