Snow squall warning issued for:
- Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
Snow squall warning replaces snow squall watch for:
- Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
Current details:
Lake effect snow squalls beginning this afternoon.
What:
Heavy lake effect snow with accumulations of 25 to 70 cm. The highest amounts are expected close to Georgian Bay.
Reduced visibility in heavy snow and local blowing snow.
When:
This afternoon into Wednesday morning.
Additional information:
Lake effect snow off Georgian Bay is expected to move into the area this afternoon and persist into Wednesday morning before weakening and shifting northward. While there remains some uncertainty in the exact location of heaviest snowfall, at this time the highest amounts are expected closer to Georgian Bay.
Westerly winds gusting to 50 km/h will result in local blowing snow especially for areas near Georgian Bay.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Road closures are possible.
Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
