Vaughan-based comedian Marc-Anthony Sinagoga said he has gone through significant changes in his life since his last tour.
Becoming a new dad and exploding in popularity on TikTok, Sinagoga said he had plenty to draw from in his comedy.
Those changes prompted Sinagoga to go on tour again, bringing up his new family life as part of his show.
“It’s all based on becoming a new dad, and kind of crafted it to be a voice of new millennial dads,” he said. “Especially being a comedian as well, there’s a lot of things I feel like people don’t talk about when it comes to witnessing a birth, the hardship of being a married dad in today’s day and age."
The popular comedian is bringing a sold-out show to Newmarket March 8 and 9 at Market Brewing Company, part of a tour ongoing since Nov. 12.
The tour follows Sinagoga gaining a significant following on TikTok, with more than 2.7 million likes and over 77,000 followers. Sinagoga said he wanted to see how much a new online following would translate to tickets.
“I feel extremely grateful that people are coming out,” he said. “This is the first tour that I’ve done after having a big, online social media presence. To see that translate to direct ticket sales and the capacity it’s happening in, it’s surreal."
Sinagoga grew up living with his Italian grandparents in Vaughan, an upbringing he draws on in his comedy. His new show, Family Style, highlights his life's experiences as a new family man.
He has a long history in comedy, doing it for more than 10 years and being a featured performer at the Dallas Comedy Festival, Arizona’s Big Pine Comedy Festival and the winner of the Brantford Comedy Festival.
He said he did writing and performance at Humber College, and when he tried stand-up as a course, it spoke to him.
“I didn’t really have a plan to do stand-up. Then I did stand-up and was like, 'I think this is what I’m supposed to be doing.' It’s felt very natural and fun. I’ve gone hard-commit ever since."
He said the show should be plenty of fun, and there are some talented opening acts, as well.
“It seems like just sharing my story and from my lens of what I’m going through, with my comedic sensibility, seems to be resonating with a lot of people.”
The show is at Market Brewing March 8 to 9 at 7 p.m. Tickets are sold out, according to Eventbrite, but the comedian will also perform in Toronto at the Paradise Theatre March 28 and 29.
