NEWS RELEASE
BRUCE STANTON PUBLIC SERVICE BURSARY

Warren Kinsella is many things. He is a punk rock artist and aficionado of punk.

He is an artist. He is a journalist. He is a political commentator.

He is a lawyer and has taught law.

He is also an experienced political staffer of the Hon. Jean Chrétien, and he is coming to Orillia, where you can see and hear him in person, while supporting a good cause.

Kinsella will be the speaker at an event to celebrate a local bursary created to honour public service. The bursary is in the name of retired MP Bruce Stanton, who served Simcoe North for 14-plus years, second only to the tenure of Dr. Rynard. MP Stanton was the longest-serving deputy Speaker in parliamentary history.

The bursary will be given annually to a student who demonstrates a commitment to public service.

Tickets to the Thursday, Oct. 13 event are $50 and are available through the following link: ec.lakeheadu.ca/events/service-scholarship/node/542.

“There are many things to do in Orillia and seeing Warren Kinsella will be a night to remember while also celebrating an investment in students at Lakehead University Orillia,” said Duncan McDonald, who spearheaded the bursary in recognition of Stanton’s public service.
