Turned away while trying to pick up a prescription or buy some shampoo or allergy pills earlier today?
If that happened at a Shoppers Drug Mart location, you were far from alone. Loblaw Companies public relations confirmed that all 1,300 of its Shoppers retail stores were affected for a period of time on May 13 by “intermittent network outages." This was due to an internal computer network software update that had to be “reversed,” media relations director Dave Bauer said.
“Our system is back online and operational,” he said Monday afternoon. “We apologize for (the) inconvenience this will have caused some of6 our customers.”
After being tipped off by a keen-eyed reader, a reporter attended the shuttered location on Innisfil Beach Road in Alcona and observed about a dozen people walk up to the front doors over a 10-minute span Monday afternoon, only to be greeted by a small sign indicating the retailer was temporarily closed due to what it called a “power outage.”
Lynda Jones-Moran had hoped to purchase a new pair of glasses, but that can wait until later in the week.
“What I’m looking for, I could come back for tomorrow,” she said. “But if it was medication, then it would be inconvenient.”
It’s unclear exactly how long each affected store was closed.
