Passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Village Care Centre in Midland on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the age of 91. Ted, of Midland, beloved partner of Anne Middleton for over 29 years. Loving father of Robert (Tanja) Aldred, and dear father figure to Jennifer (Todd) Charlebois and Eileen (Matt) Johnston. Cherished Grandpa to Charlotte Aldred and caring Papa Ted to Sommer and Owen Johnston. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Ted is predeceased by his parents Herbert and Gertrude Aldred, his first wife Margaret Rose Aldred, and his siblings Robert (Bob) Aldred and June Nicholls.
He was in the RCAF, then was in the reserves upon retirement, achieving rank of Captain, and had been an avid aviator all of his life, sharing his love of flight with many others. He was a former Commanding Officer of 714 Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron in Collingwood, and was also very involved with the Recreational Aircraft Association (RAA), Ted started the local chapter of this. And, when he could no longer fly, he started sailing, and met many great friends through this activity in his later years as a member of the MBSC.
