22-Apr-1932 - 01-Jan-2021
Loving and dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, January 1st, 2021 in Midland. Predeceased by wife Mary (Mollie) Judith Carswell (nee Barton). Father of twins Barton Frederick Carswell (wife Jessica) and Kent Peter Carswell; and Mara Suzanne Burton (husband Norman, stepson Kyle). Grandfather of Dr. Kathleen Leah Carswell (husband Nicholas Ignagni); and Ryan Murray Carswell (wife Allyson), and great-grandfather of Theodore Allan Carswell.
There was always some discrepancy on birthdate, which gave Peter a chance to celebrate twice. Born April 22nd, 1932 in Toronto to Alma (Betty) Dorothea Carswell (nee Dreyer) and Frederick George Carswell. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1957, then teacher’s college before eventually being head of the geography department at O’Neill C.V.I., Oshawa. He was a favourite teacher of many students and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow teachers.
Most of his relaxing took place at his beloved, beautiful Gloucester Pool when he had summers off for boating, or winter weekends snowmobiling. Some of his hobbies included: amateur (ham) radio operator VE3 GXX, sailing Georgian Bay, reading, fishing, playing cards and “liar’s dice” with friends at the cottage, and teaching his kids everything from small engine repair to woodsmanship. To Pete, we raise a wee dram of scotch to celebrate a life well-lived.
