John Monte Hudson, age 92, of Toronto, Ontario passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Monte Hudson in his 93rd year.
John was the beloved husband of Joan (nee Junkala) for 52 years, father to Robb (Sheri), Lisa Wilkins (Rob), Kellie (Norm), John (Sarah) and Michelle, grandfather to Kevin (Sarah), Matthew, Bradley, Andrew, Darcy, Kelley, Stephen, Sandy (Lynda), Monte and Erica, and great grandfather to Robbie.
He was predeceased by his father Roy and his mother Emma (nee Pequegnat), and his sisters Grace Jutzi and Florence Nelson.
Dad lived a long, active and successful life. He grew up in Wingham, Lucknow, Dungannon and Goderich. His fondest memories growing up were at the family farm near Lucknow. After graduation from U of T's distinguished Maths and Physics program, John was a well respected math teacher at Thornhill, Thistletown, Northview and Midland Secondary School. His secondary school teaching career was followed by a lengthy tenure as an instructor at Georgian College.
Dad finally retired at the age of 80 and spent his summers at his home on Georgian Bay in Midland (where he always had a project in progress) and many winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
John had a passion for cycling and continued to ride his bike until he was almost 90 around the trails of North York, where he and Joan moved in 2017. The highlight of Dad's cycling season was his annual ride between Goderich and Lucknow (uphill both ways).
To quote Dad's favourite line from his acting career at the Huronia Players Dad: "Time Passes" To which Joan would respond: "Yes Indeed"
A private family gathering was held on 2 November.
