Passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his beloved partner Leanne. A loving and devoted father to Joseph (Melissa) and Mathew (Maggie). Proud and loving grandfather of Wyatt, Emma, David, John and Maggie. Dear brother of Dianne (late David), Bill, Martin (Darlene), late Pat, and Ken (Laurie). Also lovingly missed by his very loyal friend Kelly.
Michael “Mike” Playne was born on November 14, 1952, to the late Rita Martin and William Playne. He grew up with a zest for life and an adventurous spirit that never faded. From racing motorcycles on ice to navigating the islands he loved so much, Mike embraced life with courage and joy. As a school bus driver for over 40 years with Beausoleil First Nation, he safely transported generations of children to school, forging meaningful connections with the community he held so dear. His devotion, friendship and dedication to his job and the students will be truly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him. His home was a sanctuary of laughter, stories, and friendship—a place where all were welcome at his kitchen table. He will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. The family of Mike Playne would like to thank you for your love, support, and presence today. Your kindness and memories mean so much to us. To the doctors and nurses who made house calls, Miigwech. It is a great honour for Michael to be buried on Christian Island, a celebration will be held at a later date.
