It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Werner Zimmermann on November 29, 2024 at the age of 68. Werner put up a brave fight against leukemia over the recent years in order to spend more time with family and friends and experience the joys of his well-earned retirement. Unfortunately, complications with leukemia raised a challenge that even his iron will could not overcome.
Werner is predeceased by his adoring mother, Marianne. He will be deeply missed by his loving daughters Erica and Kayla, his devoted partner Katharin, his dear sister Cora, and the many friends he made along the way with his generosity, unabashed friendliness and warm sense of humour.
One of Werner’s great joys was listening to music, and he would often make his daughters laugh with his crooning renditions of blues and classic rock-n-roll songs. He loved cooking, grilling on the BBQ, tending to his vegetable garden, days spent on beautiful Georgian Bay, and was an unwavering Toronto Maple Leafs fan. His family and friends are grateful that Werner had the opportunity to travel to so many beautiful parts of the world and make so many wonderful memories with his partner Katharin in his later years.
Werner is fondly remembered as a kind, caring, thoughtful man whose lightheartedness and easygoing way brought joy and smiles to all those who knew and loved him.
A memorial will be held on Sunday December 15 at Glendale Funeral Home in Etobicoke, ON, 1810 Albion Rd, (at Hwy 27) M9W 5T1. Visitation is from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, the memorial is 2:00 pm and a reception will follow.
For those wishing to make a charitable contribution in Werner’s memory, we kindly ask that donations be made to Women’s Habitat in Etobicoke. Werner was a dedicated volunteer to the organization and, along with his partner Katharin and her team, was proud to prepare, cook and serve the annual Christmas dinners to women and children.
