Almost 1,800 vehicles checked during local Festive RIDE campaign

During the Festive RIDE program season of Dec. 17, 2022 through to Jan. 2, 2023 officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police committed time and effort to the RIDE program in an effort to increase road and trail safety in north Simcoe.

During that time frame, officers checked 1,796 vehicles at 173 different RIDE program spot check locations, detecting zero impaired drivers at RIDE check stop locations. Officers on patrol have charged four drivers with impaired driving offences as the result of collision-related investigations and a fifth suspected impaired driver remains under investigation from a Dec. 28, 2022 crash.

Officers on patrol investigated 154 traffic-related collisions during this time, which included some incredible winter storms and festive season travel to the area by motorists.

Drivers are reminded to make the right choice after consuming alcohol or drugs before getting behind the wheel. Please make a plan to get home safely.
