Two Barrie residents died Friday in a head-on crash on icy roads near Waskatenau, Alta., northeast of Edmonton.
A 51-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man died at the scene of the collision on Highway 831, in the area of North Saskatchewan River Bridge, about five kilometres south of the community of Waskatenau, mid-morning on Nov. 1.
The RCMP says a pickup truck with two occupants drove over a patch of ice on the road, causing their vehicle to lose control and collide with an oncoming semi-truck. Police did not release details about injuries to the semi-truck driver.
“No names are being released,” Const. Cory Riggs, public information officer with the Alberta RCMP media group, said in an email to Village Media. “They are residents of Barrie.”
Smoky Lake and Fort Saskatchewan RCMP offered their condolences to the families, friends and loved ones affected by the crash.
