A complaint from a member of the public has resulted in charges being laid against two drivers in Midland.
On Tuesday at about 6:30 p.m., police received a report of a vehicle crossing the centre line and driving erratically. The vehicle was located in a shopping centre parking lot on Highway 12.
Officers noticed the driver of the vehicle was interacting with the driver of another vehicle parked next to it. They spoke with the driver who was suspected of driving erratically, who was determined to be wanted on a warrant, and made an arrest. The driver was displaying signs of impairment, and drug paraphernalia was found in the vehicle, Southern Georgian Bay OPP said in a news release.
While speaking with that driver, officers saw an open cannabis package in the other vehicle on site. The driver of that vehicle was also wanted on a warrant and was arrested. A search of the vehicle yielded an axe, a baton, and ammunition within reach of the driver. A modified shotgun was also located.
Bailey Crossman, 25, of Dunchurch, has been charged with the following:
- Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
- Possession of an unauthorized firearm
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with cannabis in open original packaging
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with cannabis readily available
The accused was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
Breeze Jantzi, 29, of MacTier, was charged with operation while impaired by drug, and was released with a Jan. 2 court date.
