Emergency services call leads to impaired driving investigation, drug charges

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a Christian Island man with two offences following a call from a concerned community member.

Following a call alerting the police to a driver appearing to be in an impaired physical state in a vehicle at a Bay Street Midland restaurant, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with County of Simcoe Paramedic Services, arrived at approximately 3:06 p.m. Oct. 15, 2024.

Attending officers located the suspect's vehicle and upon speaking with the driver entered into an impaired driving investigation. Scene investigation resulted in the seizure of drugs believed to be fentanyl.

As a result, the driver Jonah Sandford Mixemong, 30, has been charged criminally with the following offences: operation while impaired and possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. 

The accused was released from custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on November 31, 2024
