A log home on Concession Rd A in Ramara Township was fully engulfed in flames this morning.

Ramara Township firefighters were back on the scene today following yesterday's early-morning blaze that destroyed a log home in Ramara Township near the Talbot dam. One person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"We were assisting the (fire marshal) in concluding their investigation of the site. The coroner was not on scene today as they were on scene yesterday," said Ramara Fire Chief Tony Stong.

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been called in to investigate the cause, origin, and circumstances around the fire at 1686 Concession Road A, said Sean Driscoll, senior strategic communications advisor for the OFM.

"Fire investigators have begun the investigation, however it is too early to make any determinations of cause at this time," Driscoll said.

Stong said the fire, while still under investigation, is "not being treated as suspicious at this time."

Stephanie Rea, issues manager with the Office of the Chief Coroner, said staff are investigating the death associated with the fire.

"Due to privacy provisions under the Coroners Act, our office does not publicly release information about individual death investigations," she said.

Orillia OPP Sgt. Gilles Doiron said police were holding the scene so that the OFM could do their work today.

"Police will release the name of the deceased pending the notification of the next of kin," Stong said.

After the call came in yesterday at 5:38 a.m., 22 firefighters responded with the assistance of tankers from Brock Township Fire Department and Rama First Nation Fire Department.

The home could not be saved and damage is pegged at $350,000.
