OPP release name of Tay man charged with impaired after cruiser struck

Police say the OPP cruiser was parked with its lights flashing when it was struck by an eastbound minivan

A 31-year-old Tay man is facing impaired driving charges after a crash that shut down a section of Highway 12 for about six hours early Sunday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say an eastbound minivan struck a parked OPP cruiser with its lights flashing in the area of Wye Valley Road.

No one was injured as a result of the collision, according to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, but both vehicles were badly damaged.

Upon speaking with the driver, police noticed the signs of alcohol impairment and placed the individual under arrest to be transported to detachment to provide breath samples.

As a result of the investigation, Karl Frank-McConkey is charged with operation while impaired and over 80.

The accused was released by police and will appear in Midland court Nov. 7. As well, his driver's license of the accused was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a week.
